Travel Missions Country awards

Updated: May 17, 2023

I have created my own awards for some of the most amazing places that I have visited, highlighting which country is the best to visit, depending on your interests/travel style.

Please note that all views within this post are from my own experience and this list only includes countries that I have been fortunate enough to travel to so far. I am hoping to do some more awards on this blog once I have visited more countries. For now, please enjoy my awards below:

Best Food: Italy

The food in Italy is on another level. Whilst everyone enjoys eating the occasional pizza or pasta dish, you haven't truly experienced the best of the cuisine until you have had the pleasure to visit Italy and taste their homemade pizzas and meatballs.

Best drinks: Ireland

This is a very biased opinion because I absolutely adore Guinness and it hits different in Ireland. For any avid Guinness drinkers, I would highly recommend a trip to the motherland. As well as incredible Guinness, Ireland is home to some of the most delicious whiskeys, which is why Ireland deserves this win.

Most Scenic: Montenegro

Without a doubt, Montenegro is the most beautiful country that I have visited so far. I was pleasantly surprised with how scenic this stunning country is and I would strongly recommend a trip to Lake Skadar if you are ever lucky enough to visit Montenegro. The views on the lake are unbelievable and you genuinely have to witness the beauty with your own eyes to understand how truly stunning this country is.

Best Excursions: Iceland

This was an easy pick for me. I have been fortunate enough to experience a variety of excursions in multiple countries which are always incredible experiences. However, the memories that have arisen from my excursions in Iceland are enough to keep me satisfied if I was never able to go on an excursion again. Bathing in the blue lagoon surrounded by snow and whale watching in the Icelandic sea are up there in my favourite memories. Not to mention witnessing the stunning northern lights! There truly is something for everyone in Iceland.

Friendliest Locals: Portugal

We were lucky enough to visit Madeira (home of Cristiano Ronaldo) during the 2018 world cup season and it was one of the most interactive and special experiences we have had with locals. The whole island was connected by their pride of the country's squad as well as being particularly proud that Ronaldo is from the small island. We met up with locals and watched some of the games in the main square and the energy was unlike anything that I have ever witnessed before and whilst one of the games didn't end well for Portugal, it didn't stop the locals from celebrating and showing their appreciation for the team. An incredible scene to witness and be a part of.

Best nightlife: Spain

Spain is home to some of the most incredible bars and restaurants and with great transport links, you will never be far away from a party. I also appreciate that Spain's shops and restaurants are open until late at night which adds to the busy and vibrant atmosphere in the evenings. All bar staff that we encountered were extremely friendly and up for a good time!

Most Affordable: Czech Republic

Czech Republic is easily the cheapest and most affordable place that I have visited so far. We visited in 2019 and were able to enjoy a three course meal for less than €20 for the two of us, and the food was extremely delicious. Activities are also very affordable in Czech Republic, therefore if you are travelling on a budget, this is the place for you.

Easiest to Travel around: Austria

Austria has some amazing transportation links with a big underground tram link running between all the hotspots and 'must see' areas of Vienna. We jumped on a train from the airport to the main station which was very regular, making our journey particularly easy. We also took an evening train trip to Bratislava, Slovakia from Vienna which demonstrates the ease of travel. Austria is in a great location with great links to many other countries which is why it has taken my top spot for ease of travelling.

Most historic: Poland

This was a hard category to choose from as each country has a mass amount of history and interesting things to see and do for those who enjoy immersing themselves in historical events. Poland is on this list for their heart-wrenching trip to Auschwitz, which I strongly recommend everybody to visit at some point in their life. Please take the time to read my write-up about my experience of visiting Auschwitz for more on what to expect before visiting.

Best country for Adventurers: Croatia

Croatia is home to the most beautiful national park that I have ever had the pleasure to visit. With lots of incredible thrill seeking excursions presented throughout Croatia, you will not be short of adventure throughout this incredible country.
