A hike to the top of the marvellous mountain of Montserrat is a must do when visiting the Catalonia area of Barcelona.
Montserrat is a large mountain based just outside of Barcelona (a short train ride away from the main town). Mount Montserrat has several large peaks which are all worth exploring. There are two ways that you can travel to the main section of the mountain: train or cable car. We opted for the cable car option which I would highly recommend for the beautiful, panoramic views that you are guaranteed to witness. However, if heights aren't really your thing, I think that the train could be your best option. Although, please be aware that the train also travels at a very steep incline.
Once you exit the cable car or train station, you are greeted by an array of exciting things to do and explore. There is also a large buffet restaurant that can be found not far from the exit stations which is always a bonus when visiting a mountain! As well as some incredible views, Montserrat is home to a large church that can be explored, including some beautiful religious architecture and artwork.
I can guarantee you that there is little chance of running out of things to see and do when visiting Montserrat. There are also a variety of different trails depending on a person's capability which all lead to stunning views. Whichever trail you decide to take, you can be certain to witness the full beauty of Montserrat.
