Hiking Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh. An adventure worth accomplishing.

Updated: Feb 17, 2019

Let me begin by explaining that Arthur's Seat is in no way a "hike" that compares to those that include mountainous terrain alongside small alleys and tough inclines. In all honesty Arthur's Seat is barely a hill, but don't let that trick you into thinking that climbing it is an easy task.

Anybody that has ever completed this "hike" has more than likely made the same mistake that we did by climbing a smaller hill version that is placed inconveniently next to Arthur's seat. Climbing the smaller hill seemed like a not so difficult task until we reached the peak where we noticed that the Arthur's Seat challenge that we were meant to be partaking in, was located in the near distance!

With our limbs well and truly warmed up, we began heading towards the real Arthur's Seat. The journey up is harder than I had anticipated and the picture to the right is an example of some of the terrain leading to the top. Although Arthur's Seat isn't a "mountain" as such, all those who have braved the climb, definitely did not do so with ease.

Unfortunately, the day that we chose to climb Arthur's Seat was a particularly cloudy and windy day so, although the views at the top were magnificent, I would definitely like to do this climb again on a warm summers day where the beauty of Edinburgh can truly be appreciated. Also due to the winds, once we made it to the top, it was a challenging task to keep both feet firmly on the ground which led to lots of amusing moments. Therefore, I would highly recommend taking good company to share some fun and memorable moments with but be warned, Arthur's Seat is not to be taken lightly.
