Why should the exotic island of Madeira be explored?

Updated: Feb 17, 2019

When talking about Portugal, the country’s hot spots such as Algarve and Lisbon are always honoured. However, a Portuguese wonder that often fails to be mentioned is the beautiful, tropical Portuguese island, Madeira.

Some of Madeira's exotic scenery.

Madeira is known for its stunning scenery which includes incredibly striking, exotic flowers and plants. To look at the island, you would be mistaken to think that it belongs within the Caribbean as it harbours the most beautiful, natural environment as well as being a main growing resource for exotic fruits including bananas. A trip to one of the many banana plantations is a must do when visiting the island.

Another similarity between the Caribbean and this Portuguese island, is the vast variety of wildlife that can be found here. During boat trips, you can expect to see dolphins, sea turtles and whales enjoying life in their natural habitat just off of the main coast of the beautiful island. Whilst wandering the streets of the island, you can also expect to see the ‘Madeiran wall lizard’. These are tiny lizards that are often found roaming around rocky areas (particularly near steps) and are completely harmless. They are a delight to watch as they scurry from rock to rock which gives you a real feel of the eccentric, yet relaxing holiday atmosphere.

Madeira is also home to some incredible lava rock pools which is sure to interest each member of the family!

Generally, if you’re in search for an exotic holiday without the exotic price tag, Madeira is a must visit. The beautiful scenery and extremely fascinating terrain is sure to take your breath away. Everything about Madeira is Magnificent.
