When I informed people that we were heading to Montenegro, I was met with a lot of puzzled looks, alongside questions of why we were planning to holiday in an 'unknown' destination. I also received lots of curious queries regarding the Country's location and exactly where it was in the world. It quickly became apparent that Montenegro is not considered as a popular holiday destination which made me even more curious to visit.
If I am being completely honest, I also didn't know very much about the country of Montenegro and the main reason why I chose it as a holiday destination is because I loved visiting Croatia and after a quick google search, it was clear that there were lots of similarities between the two countries. This led to me booking a holiday to Montenegro in the hope that it wouldn't disappoint but I was not expecting to find the most beautiful country that I have ever had the pleasure to visit.
In all honesty, pictures do not do the views justice and we were lucky enough to have our hotel overlook the mountains, which took my breath away every time that I saw them. I genuinely am struggling to find the words to describe how stunning this Country is and I truly believe that it has to be seen with your own eyes to fully comprehend the true beauty of Montenegro.
During our time in Montenegro, we kayaked within the Adriatic sea, visited the most incredible lake that I have ever seen which overlooked Albania, and witnessed stunning views of prison ruins as well as exotic wildlife on the lake. We also visited 'Our lady of the rock' which is a small island with lots of history. I was also given the surprise of my life when my boyfriend proposed to me on this island with the most beautiful backdrop. For this reason, Montenegro will have even more of my heart than I thought humanly possible.
I really believe that everybody needs to visit Montenegro at some point in their lives to witness the natural beauty of the country, as well as being introduced to some of the lovely and friendly people that live there and rightfully have a lot of pride in their small country. Montenegro is not to be missed and I assure you that you will not be disappointed with a visit to this treasure of a Country.
