Leaning Tower of Pisa: A must-see sight within Tuscany

I have recently returned from a short trip to Pisa. I am planning to write a blog post soon, highlighting all the incredible things that I got up to whilst I was in Pisa (which included a trip to Florence🚆), so watch this space! However, whilst you patiently wait for my 3 day guide of Pisa, I wanted to share a quick glimpse into my trip. Pisa is a beautiful city within the Tuscany region of Italy and whilst there are lots of incredible things to do and see within this beautiful city, there is one sight that Pisa is incredibly famous for... The Leaning tower of Pisa☀

Visitors come from far and wide to see this incredible monument, so I wanted to quickly share with you, my thoughts on this popular landmark and whether it is a must-visit within the Tuscan region.

You have likely heard of the Leaning Tower of Pisa but you may not be as familiar with the Square of Miracles which is where the incredible and quirky tower is located. The square is cordoned by beautiful medieval walls, which create an intimate and secluded area for the incredible three buildings that live within the square. You will likely be familiar with the Leaning tower of Pisa, however you may not have heard of the Pisa Cathedral and the Baptistry which are also located alongside the Leaning tower, within the walled 89,000 square metre area. Whilst the Leaning Tower is a sight to be seen with your own eyes, make sure to not overlook these stunning two buildings either side, which are just as impressive as the tower.

Before my trip to Pisa, I had done some thorough research around the Leaning tower of Pisa and why it leans (which is extremely fascinating if you haven't already looked into it) and whilst researching, it was inevitable to stumble across multiple pictures of the tower from different angles. Whilst looking at these pictures, I was surprised to see that the tower didn't seem to lean very much and I genuinely thought that I would be a little disappointed when I eventually saw it with my own eyes. How wrong I was!! The Leaning Tower of Pisa is 10x more impressive in person than in pictures and I can assure you that it definitely leans! Pictures are deceiving and even within the pictures that I tried to take to depict how much the tower truly leans, it was almost impossible to do this incredible tower justice.

The architecture of the tower is fascinating and there is also a chance to walk up the leaning tower. Although we decided against this because we felt that we could appreciate the true beauty of the tower from the floor. There is a nice grass area to sit on near the leaning tower, as well as multiple bars and restaurants within a close proximity, where you can enjoy a drink whilst taking in the beauty of the tower. We ended up buying some drinks from a coffee shop and bar to enjoy whilst sitting on the vibrant green grass and taking in all the surrounding architecture.

Overall, the Leaning Tower is a must-see when travelling to the region of Tuscany and I can assure you that you won't be disappointed that you took the trip to see this famous landmark. Pisa has a large train station with links to Florence and Lucca, so there really is no reason to not visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa when you're in the region✨
